A Susan Lamb appreciation post

Today, I was so happy to get to spend some time with our brand-new Fayette County Clerk, Susan Lamb. We got to catch up on all of the innovative things happening in Lexington with election administration and security, deed recording, and even boat registration! The Fayette County Clerk’s office is working on so many exciting projects, including the Digital Access Project, which is, for the very first time, digitizing the deed records identifying names of enslaved people who were sold, purchased, or even emancipated in our city. This is a critical step stowards acknowledging the human trafficking that built Lexington’s early economy.

While she was on Council and in city government before that, Susan was a stalwart advocate for public engagement in decision making processes. She graciously agreed to work with CivicLex on studying and reimagining the public input process for Council, which we will be finalizing in the coming months. I have no doubt that she will bring this focus on education, transparency, and co-governance to the Clerk’s office.

So excited to see how Lexington’s civic life grows stronger with her in this office.
